Biography

Sampsa Ertamo (b. 1973 in Helsinki) is a Finnish composer who began studying the trombone and piano at the Sibelius Academy in 1992 before changing to composition as his main subject in 1995. His teachers in composition have included Erkki Jokinen and Tapio Nevanlinna. He obtained a Master’s degree in music in 2004 and has since concentrated exclusively on composition. Works by him have been performed in Finland and abroad, and he has held several profile concerts in Helsinki and in the town where he now lives, Hämeenlinna. These concerts he has also conducted. His output includes chamber music, solo, tape, orchestral and vocal works; in the last of these genres he usually uses a phonetic text of his own devising.
